Detriot losing to the 8th-seed Edmonton Oilers has the hockey world stunned. The number-one team in the NHL in points was humbled by an underdog but scrappy Oilers team.
Although Detroit took a 2-0 lead early, Edmonton's Fernando Pisani scored on the power play at 2:56 into the 3rd period to give life to the Oilers. After the goal, the crowd came to life, chanting, "Manny, Manny," heckeling Detroit goaltender Manny Legacy after being silenced most of the game. Then, Pisani scored his second goal of the night 6:40 into the 3rd, stunning the Red Wings. Johan Franzen got the lead back for Detroit four minutes later, which again silenced the crowd. The Oilers had a power play with five minutes left in the game, and were able to get the puck past Legacy again. The play went under review for several minutes. Finally, it was deemed a goal. The last nail in Detroit's coffin came with less than two minutes left in the game when Ales Hemsky scored his second goal of the night. The crowd turned downright hysterical when the final buzzer of the game ended the Red Wings season, sending their Oilers into the the next round. Edmonton's goalie woes during the regular season are a distant memory now and everyone will be watching the club and giving them more respect.
