The Buffalo Sabres won the first game of the NHL Stanley Cup round two series against the Ottawa Senators, with a nail-biting streak of scoring on both sides.
The Buffalo Sabres took the first matchup with Chris Drury's goal 18 seconds into overtime in Ottawa. The game quickly became a goaltender's worst nightmare, with 13 goals between the two teams and scoring that started just 35 seconds into the first period. A shot by Mike Grier beat Ray Emery. Buffalo had five different goal-scorers last night, with Tim Connolly and Derek Roy each tallying two goals. Roy had a impressive night with his two goals and three assists. Ottawa, meanwhile, wasn't too shabby, boasting five different goal scorers. Byran Smolinski shot two of Ottawa's goals. When it was all said and done, a total of 22 players between the two teams got at least a point. Buffalo's lead made possible by Mike Grier 35 seconds into the 1st period was their only lead of the game, and it didn't last long. Ottawa's Jason Spezza scored less than four minutes later. Two Senators records were set in last night's game. Mike Fischer earned a Senators team record when he scored a goal 16 seconds into the third period, and Jason Spezza and Bryan Smolinski scored 15 seconds apart for the two fastest playoff goals.
