Carolina Wins NHL East

The Carolina Hurricanes won tonight’s all important Stanley Cup playoff game 7 over the Buffalo Sabres 4-2, taking the Eastern Conference title.

Both NHL teams played with heart and desperation tonight. It was truly a Stanley Cup playoff series full of flashy speed and bone throttling hits.

The first goal of the game was definitely an odd one. The shot was taken from the point by Carolina's Mike Commodore. The puck then ping-ponged off two Sabres, Taylor Pyatt and then off of Adam Mair, into the net, leaving Buffalo netminder Ryan Miller baffled.

Buffalo finally answered with their own goal with 15 minutes into the second period, tying the game. They weren't done though. With less than 4 seconds left into the second period, Johen Hecht scored against Carolina goalie Cam Ward. That goal and its timing at the end of the period really quieted the hometown faithful.

The crowd got to rejoice once more along with the Hurricanes when Doug Weight scored 1:34 into the third period.

Carolina took back the lead at 8:43 of the third period with a shot by Rod Brind'amour from the top of the crease beating Miller over his right shoulder.

William scored with 51.7 seconds left in the 3rd period sending the fans into a frenzy and the sending the Sabres home. Ryan Miller just looked up at the big screen to see what happened.

As the Hurricanes celebrated, the Prince of Whales trophy was brought out onto the ice. After the high-fives and on ice interviews, Hurricanes Captain Brind'amour waved the team over to the trophy for a quick photo shoot. Not one team member touched it.

Game Note: Buffalo Sabres Defenseman Jay Mckee missed tonight's game with a seriously infected cut that was from a blocked shot during a game against Ottawa during the second round series.
