Carolina Hurricanes' Rod Brind’Amour, New York Rangers' Jaromir Jagr and Washington Capitals' Alexander Ovechkin were among the winners during the NHL awards show.
Here is a list of the awards, what it means to win them and the names of the 2006 winners:
- Frank J.Selke Trophy (top defensive forward in the NHL) was awarded to Carolina Hurricanes center Rod Brind'Amour.
- Lester B. Pearson Award (most valuable player selected by the National Hockey League Player's Association) winner was New York Rangers forward Jaromir Jagr.
- Lady Byng Memorial Trophy (player who displays gentlemanly conduct) was awared to Detroit Red Wings center Pavel Datsyuk.
- Hart Memorial Trophy (NHL most valuable player) was awarded to San Jose Sharks center Joe Thorton.
- Jack Adams Award (coach of the year) winner was Buffalo Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff.
- Vezina Trophy (top goaltender in the NHL) was awarded to Calgary Flames goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff.
- James Norris Memorial Trophy (top defenseman in the NHL) was awarded to Detriot Red Wings defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom.
- King Clancy Memorial Trophy (leadership and humanitarian contribution) was awarded to Washington Capitals goaltender Olaf Kolzig.
- Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy (qualities of perserverance and sportsmanship) was awarded to Anahiem Mighty Ducks right wing Teemu Selanne.
- Calder Memorial Trophy (rookie of the year) was awarded to Washington Capitals Alexander Ovechkin.
- Art Ross Trophy (top point scorer in the NHL) was awarded to San Jose Sharks center Joe Thorton.
- Conn Smythe Trophy (most valuable player in the playoffs) was awarded to Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Cam Ward.
- Maurice Richard Trophy (top goal scorer in the NHL) was awarded to San Jose Sharks Jonathan Cheechoo.
- William M. Jennings Trophy (goaltender with the fewest goals scored against) was awarded to Calgary Flames goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff.
- Presidents Trophy (team with the best overall record) was given to the Detroit Red Wings.
