What is more boring than a Stanley Cup series that is easily won by a team? Yawn! Well, the 2006 playoffs are keeping fans on their toes. Four teams just tied the series.

Just in the last two nights of play:

  • Detroit Red Wings tied the series 2-2 with underdog Edmonton Oilers.
  • The Calgary Flames did the same to the Anaheim Mighty Ducks.
  • Same goes for the San Jose Sharks against the Nashville Predators.
  • The Carolina Hurricanes, ranked second in the Eastern Conference, finally got two road wins to tie things up with the Montreal Canadians.

This has also been a round to root for the underdog. Fans and sports analysts have been surprised by success of lesser-ranked teams like the Edmonton Oilers against favorite Detroit, and the Colorado Avalanche versus Dallas Stars.

This year's playoffs, so far, are shaping up the be filled with unpredictability and suspense. Enjoy.
