If you miss laying on the couch or sitting in your Lazyboy with chips and a good drink watching a hockey game, you can throw a hockey movie into the DVD player.

Here is a small list of the best hockey-related movies:

  1. Slap Shot (1977) is the classic hockey movie starring Paul Newman and the infamous Hanson Brothers. This movie should be in any hockey fan's movie library.
  2. Mystery, Alaska (1999) features Russell Crowe in this comedy in which Hank Azaria wants to bring the New York Rangers to play against the locals in a game of real pond-ice hockey.
  3. Sudden Death (1995), with Jean Claude Van Damme trying to stop terrorists during a Pittsburg Penguins game. Guns and hockey. What could be better?
  4. The Mighty Ducks (1992) in which Emilio Estevez teaches a group of misfit kids how to play hockey and become a team.
  5. Miracle (2004) is the story of the 1980 Olympics U.S. men's hockey team. Kurt Russell stars as coach Herb Brooks.
  6. Youngblood (1986) with Rob Lowe and Patrick Swayze starring in this movie about a young skilled hockey player who needs to prove he's tough enough to make it in the Canadien junior hockey league.
  7. Happy Gilmore(1996) starring Adam Sandler as an overzealous hockey player who can't skate, but does have one mean slap shot. See the comedy that ensues when this foul-mouth, tough wanna-be hockey player joins the PGA tour.
